CITIC Pacific Mining (CPM) has been a partner of Karratha Clontarf Academy since it opened in 2010.
The program exists to improve the education, discipline, life skills and employment prospects of young indigenous males from Karratha Senior High School and exposes them to life working on a mine site.
Academy Director Brad Cox says the students learn a lot from the partnership.
“The program is about getting these young fellas through school, engaging them in school and then at the end of school giving them a really good life outcome in employment,” he says.
“They also bring them to the village; they’ve had experience of talking to the staff about different opportunities at CPM.”
Brad says working closely with CPM and being able to expose the young men to Sino Iron’s integrated operations adds value to their future.
“Having Sino Iron located near Karratha means the boys being able to experience what life is like on the mine site and what good employment can do.”
“That’s what our job is all about.”
